Truck Suspensions | Auxiliary Axle
“SURE TRAC” Forward and Reverse Self-Steering Air-Ride/Air-Lift For Pusher and Tag Applications
Mod. RSS-236 - Self-steers forward only
Mod. RSS-236R - Self-steers forward and reverse
Covered Under U.S. and Foreign Patents, Existing and Applied for.

Applications: Block haulers, cement mixers, construction vehicles, dump trucks, grain bodies, log haulers, over-the-highway tractors, milk trucks, refuse vehicles, straight trucks

Capacity: 13,000 - 20,000 lbs.

Advantages:

  • Up to 26° turning angle
  • Constant axle caster maintained in forward and reverse modes
  • 14" total axle travel with up to 11" lift
  • Fast, easy lift from low-friction urethane bushings
  • SURE-TRAC equipped axles stay on the ground when cornering for tight turning radii. Tires track with the vehicle during turns, virtually eliminating scuffs

Option: Reversing air cylinder kit with solenoid allows suspension to self-steer in forward and reverse modes, eliminating the need to lift or lock tie rod of axle when backing up

Compact Version:

  • Reversing cylinder is unitized, no attaching hardware
  • Mounts in 24" vertical clearances, bottom of frame to ground
  • Allows use of full size tires such as 11R22.5 and super singles

Warranty: 3 year pro-rated

True and Accurate Steering by Design
Patented in 1991, the SURE-TRAC suspension system is (1) selectively controlled by the driver to raise and lower the axle and (2) automatically controlled to vary the pitch of the axle between a forward and rearward caster.

In conventionally designed self-steering suspensions, one of the variable torque rods of the parallelogram linkage consists of a piston and cylinder assembly, however the piston and cylinder assembly is not as rigid as the torque rod it replaces. The fluctuation of the relative position of the piston and cylinder due to forces exerted on the vehicle causes a fluctuation in the pitch of the axle which can substantially negate the self-steering effect obtained by setting the axle at a forward or rearward pitch.

By employing a piston and cylinder assembly separate from the variable length torque rod, the SURE-TRAC suspension diminishes the fluctuations that can occur in conventionally designed self-steers and therefore provides the true and accurate steering that actually extends tire life.
