Mechanical Test Engineer

About the Role:
We are seeking a skilled and detail-oriented Mechanical Test Engineer to join our team. In this role, you will be responsible for designing, conducting, and analyzing tests on heavy vehicle suspension and components to ensure they meet quality and performance standards.
Key Responsibilities:
- Design and Develop Test Plans: Create detailed test plans and procedures for mechanical components and systems. Configure data acquisition software and hardware.
- Conduct Testing: Perform tests on mechanical systems, including stress, fatigue, vibration, and component testing. Instrument test specimens with applicable transducers. This involves hands-on work with mechanical components and test specimens.
- Data Analysis: Analyze test data to identify trends, anomalies, and areas for improvement.
- Test Fixture Design: Use 3D CAD software to design custom test fixtures and equipment. Create 2D fixture drawings. Supervise and assist with fixture machining and fabrication.
- Documentation: Document and report test results, providing recommendations for design modifications or improvements. Keep detailed notes of tests, specimens and anomalies.
- Measurement: Conduct precise measurements with calipers, gage blocks, inclinometers, pressure sensors, thermocouples, height gages, tapes and rules and other instruments.
- Maintain Equipment: Ensure all testing equipment is calibrated and maintained according to industry standards.
- Travel: Occasional overnight travel to instrument and acquire data for in-service heavy vehicles.
Desired Qualifications:
- Bachelor’s degree in mechanical engineering or equivalent.
- Familiarity with MTS testing hardware and software, Dewesoft data acquisition equipment and nCode Glyphworks analysis software.
- Familiarity with welding, machining, hydraulics, pneumatics, servo control systems, electro-mechanical systems and proficient use of hand and air tools.
- Strong analytical and problem-solving skills. Proficient use of Excel.
- High level of attention to detail, accuracy, observation and note taking skills.
